Utility ROV Services were contracted by Dredging International NV to investigate and recover a large, unknown, buried object on the Modular Offshore Grid (MOG) Project in Belgium. The unidentified object required removal before cable trenching operations could commence. Previous vessels on the site had not been successful in identifying or uncovering the object.

The object investigation and removal operations were conducted from the DP2 vessel, EDT Jane, which was chartered for the duration of the project by Utility ROV Services.

The operations consisted of using the CFE to visually investigate an object blocking the dredging path, in which a large anchor chain was discovered. Multiple tooling options were utilised in an attempt to cut and recover the chain; however, it was found to be far larger and heavier than expected and therefore was determined that an alternative vessel would be better suited to its recovery. The chain end was marked using a buoy and its exact location noted for future recovery by an anchor handling vessel.
