Utility ROV Services were contracted by Adwen GmbH to conduct boulder relocation operations at 5 Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) locations on the Wikinger OWF. Each WTG location had 4 spudcan interaction areas (18.74m x 20m) that were to be cleared to allow the installation vessel to jack-up on location.
The boulder relocation operations were conducted from the DP2 vessel, EDT Hercules, which was chartered for the duration of the project by Utility ROV Services.
Utility ROV Services worked closely with Andrews Survey to visually investigate the spudcan areas. Any targets over 0.3m in any dimension were relocated to one of the provided relocation zones by the UTROV® and Tine Grab. An as-left fix and Gemini sonar scan were taken to record the new position. Each interaction area had an as-left survey performed to prove that the area in question was cleared of boulders.Work was performed within a live Windfarm in close proximity to the WTG’s, requiring close liaison with the field operator to ensure the required isolations were in place for select WTG’s, whilst allowing the remainder of the field to continue operations unhindered.
