Utility ROV Services were contracted by Boskalis Hirdes, on behalf of the Water and Shipping Authority (WSA), to aid with an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) ID & Removal campaign during the widening of the Jade Waterway at Minsener Oog Island, located in the north German district of Friesland. With exceptionally high currents on site, the operating window of the WROV was significantly reduced. Despite the challenging conditions, the UTROV® remained unhindered, continuing operations and thus reducing vessel downtime. URS were required to survey targets within a 50km2 area, utilising TSS 440 technology to identify potential unexploded ordnance (pUXO). In addition to surveying, URS were required to conduct debris removal and high-flow dredging operations to further support the campaign. The UTROV® and WROV operations were conducted from the DP2 vessel, Kamara, onto which the UTROV® System 1 spread was mobilised. The UTROV® system was LARS deployed, utilising our A-Frame and Active Heave Compensated (AHC) winch. In addition to the UTROV® System, the following tools were supplied: Tine Grab, TSS 440 Frame and the DOP 200 Dredge Pump.
