Utility ROV Services were contracted by NKT to conduct Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) and Pangeo Sub Bottom Imaging (SBI) Surveys along the cable route of the Caithness-Moray Interconnector cable.

Survey Operations were conducted from the DP2 vessel EDT Kennedy. The EDT Kennedy and UTROV® spread were used to establish the depth of burial of the previously installed Caithness-Moray High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link cable, with the Pangeo SBI determining the depth of burial of the cable against the Mean Sea Bed level established with the MBES.

Data obtained from the survey allowed NKT to plan their rock-dumping campaign to achieve the required depth of coverage for the cable. An area of particular interest to the client was the section at which the cable emerged from the Horizontal Directional Drilled (HDD) pipe and emerged onto the seabed in shallow water. The spread supplied by Utility ROV Services allowed this work to be conducted effectively.
